  • Author: Anele
  • Total Time: 2 hours 30 minutes
  • Yield: 24 cake balls 1x

Description

Colorful and delicious cake balls perfect for any celebration. These festive treats can be made ahead and customized with vibrant colors.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box white cake mix, prepared according to package directions
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened (or 1/2 cup frosting as substitute)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 16 oz white chocolate or candy melts
  • Gel food coloring (red and blue) or freeze-dried fruit powder
  • Sprinkles for decoration
  • 12 tsp coconut oil or vegetable shortening (optional, for thinning chocolate)

Instructions

  1. Prepare and bake the cake according to package directions. Allow to cool completely.
  2. Crumble the cooled cake into fine crumbs in a large bowl.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat together the cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth.
  4. Add the cream cheese mixture to the cake crumbs and mix until well combined.
  5. Divide the mixture into portions if you want to create different colors. Add gel food coloring or freeze-dried fruit powder to achieve desired colors.
  6. Form the mixture into 1-inch balls and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. Refrigerate the cake balls for at least 1 hour or until firm.
  8. Melt the white chocolate or candy melts according to package directions. If too thick, add 1-2 teaspoons of coconut oil or vegetable shortening.
  9. Dip each cake ball into the melted chocolate and return to the parchment paper. Add sprinkles immediately before the chocolate sets.
  10. Allow the chocolate to set completely before serving. Store in the refrigerator.

Notes

  • You can use any flavor of cake mix you prefer.
  • For best results, refrigerate the cake balls before dipping in chocolate.
  • If the chocolate coating is too thick, add a small amount of coconut oil to thin it.
  • Store cake balls in the refrigerator for up to one week or freeze for up to three months.
