- 1 box white cake mix, prepared according to package directions
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened (or 1/2 cup frosting as substitute)
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 16 oz white chocolate or candy melts
- Gel food coloring (red and blue) or freeze-dried fruit powder
- Sprinkles for decoration
- 1–2 tsp coconut oil or vegetable shortening (optional, for thinning chocolate)
Instructions
- Prepare and bake the cake according to package directions. Allow to cool completely.
- Crumble the cooled cake into fine crumbs in a large bowl.
- In a separate bowl, beat together the cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth.
- Add the cream cheese mixture to the cake crumbs and mix until well combined.
- Divide the mixture into portions if you want to create different colors. Add gel food coloring or freeze-dried fruit powder to achieve desired colors.
- Form the mixture into 1-inch balls and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Refrigerate the cake balls for at least 1 hour or until firm.
- Melt the white chocolate or candy melts according to package directions. If too thick, add 1-2 teaspoons of coconut oil or vegetable shortening.
- Dip each cake ball into the melted chocolate and return to the parchment paper. Add sprinkles immediately before the chocolate sets.
- Allow the chocolate to set completely before serving. Store in the refrigerator.
Notes
- You can use any flavor of cake mix you prefer.
- For best results, refrigerate the cake balls before dipping in chocolate.
- If the chocolate coating is too thick, add a small amount of coconut oil to thin it.
- Store cake balls in the refrigerator for up to one week or freeze for up to three months.
