Festive and delicious 4th of July Sugar Cookie Bars with colorful frosting and sprinkles – perfect for your holiday celebration!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 3 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)
  • 34 tbsp milk (for frosting)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • Red and blue food coloring
  • Patriotic sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together 1 cup butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in eggs and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.
  6. Press dough evenly into the prepared pan.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes until edges are lightly golden and center is set.
  8. Cool completely in the pan before frosting.
  9. For frosting, beat 1/2 cup butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, alternating with milk. Add vanilla and beat until smooth.
  10. Divide frosting into three portions. Leave one white, color one red, and one blue.
  11. Spread frosting over cooled bars in a patriotic pattern and top with sprinkles.
  12. Refrigerate for 30 minutes before cutting into bars for cleaner edges.

Notes

  • Make sure butter is at room temperature for easy mixing.
  • Don’t overmix the cookie dough to ensure soft, tender bars.
  • Allow bars to cool completely before frosting to prevent melting.
  • For vibrant colors, use gel food coloring rather than liquid.
  • These bars can be made 1-2 days ahead and stored in an airtight container.
