Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, cream together 1 cup butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in eggs and vanilla extract until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.
- Press dough evenly into the prepared pan.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until edges are lightly golden and center is set.
- Cool completely in the pan before frosting.
- For frosting, beat 1/2 cup butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, alternating with milk. Add vanilla and beat until smooth.
- Divide frosting into three portions. Leave one white, color one red, and one blue.
- Spread frosting over cooled bars in a patriotic pattern and top with sprinkles.
- Refrigerate for 30 minutes before cutting into bars for cleaner edges.

- Make sure butter is at room temperature for easy mixing.
- Don’t overmix the cookie dough to ensure soft, tender bars.
- Allow bars to cool completely before frosting to prevent melting.
- For vibrant colors, use gel food coloring rather than liquid.
