Crispy, delicious air fryer onion strings made with buttermilk and a perfect seasoned coating. A healthier alternative to deep-fried onion rings that’s just as tasty.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large sweet onions (Vidalia, Walla Walla, or Maui preferred)
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • Cooking spray
  • Seasoning to taste

Instructions

  1. Slice onions very thinly using a mandoline or sharp knife
  2. Soak sliced onions in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes
  3. Mix flour and seasonings in a shallow dish

  5. Place in air fryer basket in single layers, avoiding overcrowding
  6. Spray generously with cooking oil
  7. Air fry until golden and crispy
  8. Serve immediately
