Description
A patriotic twist on the classic Caprese salad, arranged to resemble the American flag using fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, and basil.
Ingredients

- 2 pounds fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced into 1/4-inch rounds
- 4 large red tomatoes, sliced into 1/4-inch rounds
- 1 pint blueberries
- 1 bunch fresh basil leaves
- 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- 2 tablespoons balsamic glaze
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Instructions
- On a large rectangular platter, arrange blueberries in the top left corner to form the star section of the flag.
- Create alternating rows of sliced mozzarella and tomatoes to represent the stripes of the flag.
- Tuck fresh basil leaves between some of the tomato and mozzarella slices.
- Drizzle with olive oil and balsamic glaze just before serving.
- Season with sea salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
Notes
- For best presentation, use a rectangular white platter.
- Prepare just before serving for the freshest appearance.
- Can be made up to 2 hours ahead and refrigerated.
- Pat the mozzarella dry with paper towels to prevent excess moisture.
