Description
A moist and delicious traditional Amish applesauce cake that can be made with or without eggs. Perfect for special occasions and actually tastes better the next day!
Ingredients
- Applesauce (homemade or store-bought)
- Eggs (or egg substitutes)
- All-purpose flour
- Leavening agents (baking powder/soda)
- Spices (traditional cake spices)
- Additional ingredients based on specific recipe
Instructions
- Prepare the cake pan and preheat the oven
- Mix dry ingredients separately
- Combine wet ingredients including applesauce
- Mix wet and dry ingredients until just combined
- Pour into prepared pan
- Bake until a toothpick comes out with few moist crumbs
- Allow to cool before serving
Notes
- Can substitute each egg with ¼ cup applesauce or flax egg (1 tbsp ground flaxseed + 3 tbsp water)
- Make homemade applesauce by cooking peeled, cored apples with water until soft
- Don’t overmix the batter to avoid density issues
- Can be made 1-2 days in advance
- Add frosting or toppings just before serving
