Description

A delightful blend of tradition and taste, this Amish Cinnamon Bread features a perfect balance of sweetness and warmth, inviting everyone to gather around the table.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ cup softened salted butter
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ⅓ cup sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350ºF and grease a 9X5 loaf pan with butter or oil.
  2. Add the softened butter to a large bowl. Use a hand mixer or a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment for best results.
  3. Mix the granulated and brown sugars into the butter until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and buttermilk, mixing until fully incorporated.
  5. Sift the flour and baking soda into the bowl. Mix until it just starts to come together, then fold with a silicone spatula until no large lumps remain.
  6. Stir together ⅓ cup of sugar with 1 ½ teaspoons of cinnamon and set aside.
  7. Add half of the batter to the prepared loaf pan, then sprinkle half of the cinnamon sugar mixture on top and swirl gently with a butter knife.
  8. Add the remaining batter and smooth it out, then sprinkle the rest of the cinnamon sugar mixture on top and swirl again.
  9. Drizzle 2 tablespoons of melted butter over the top of the loaf.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 50-70 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.
  11. Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 20 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

For the best results, use room-temperature ingredients. Experiment with different types of cinnamon for varied flavors.
