Description

A savory and flavorful Beef Lo Mein that combines tender flank steak and vibrant vegetables with lo mein noodles for a comforting dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
  • 8 oz lo mein noodles (or spaghetti)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • 1 cup broccoli florets
  • 1/2 cup sliced bell peppers (any color)
  • 1/2 cup snow peas (optional)
  • 3 green onions, sliced

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix together 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of cornstarch, and 1 teaspoon of sesame oil. Add the flank steak, tossing to ensure each piece is coated. Let it marinate for 15 minutes.
  2. While the beef marinates, cook the lo mein noodles according to the package instructions. Drain the noodles and set them aside.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together 1/4 cup of soy sauce, 2 tablespoons of oyster sauce, 1 tablespoon of hoisin sauce, 1 teaspoon of sesame oil, 1 tablespoon of rice vinegar, 1 teaspoon of sugar, 1 teaspoon of minced garlic, and 1 teaspoon of minced ginger.
  4. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef and stir-fry for about 2-3 minutes until browned. Remove the beef from the skillet and set it aside.
  5. In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Toss in the shredded carrots, broccoli florets, sliced bell peppers, and snow peas. Stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are tender-crisp.
  6. Return the cooked beef to the skillet along with the drained lo mein noodles. Pour the prepared sauce over the mixture, tossing everything together for 2-3 minutes over medium heat until everything is well coated and heated through.
  7. Serve hot, garnished with sliced green onions for an extra burst of flavor.

Notes

For best results, marinate the beef earlier in the day. Use high heat for stir-frying to preserve the tenderness of the beef and the crunch of the vegetables.
