- – 10 to 12 crispy taco shells (stand and stuff) OR soft tortillas of choice
- – 1 tbsp (15 ml) vegetable oil
- – 2 garlic cloves, minced
- – 1 onion, finely chopped
- – 500 g / 1 lb beef, ground / mince
- – 2 tbsp (30 ml) tomato paste
- – 1/4 cup / 65 ml water
- – 1 tsp (5 ml) EACH garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano
- – 2 tsp (10 ml) EACH cumin powder, paprika
- – 1 tsp (5 ml) salt
- – 1/4 tsp (1 ml) black pepper
- – Shredded cheese
- – Shredded iceberg lettuce
- – 2 tomatoes, chopped
- – 1/2 red or white onion, chopped
- – Sour cream
- – Taco sauce (optional)
- – Other: coriander/cilantro, jalapeño, hot sauce / chili sauce, pickled chilies, salsa sauce, pico de gallo
Instructions
- Set your oven to 180C/350F to warm up.
- In a large pan, heat the oil over high heat. Toss in the minced garlic and finely chopped onion, cooking for 2 minutes until they are golden in color.
- Add the ground beef to the pan, breaking it apart as it cooks for about 2 minutes until it turns from red to a light brown shade.
- Incorporate the garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano, cumin powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Stir and cook for another 2 minutes until the beef is fully cooked.
- Mix in the tomato paste and water. Continue cooking for 1 minute until the water has evaporated, resulting in a juicy beef mixture.
- Arrange the taco shells in a baking dish, filling each with the prepared beef mixture and topping with shredded cheese.
- Place the dish in the oven and bake for 5 to 7 minutes until the cheese has melted and the shells are crispy.
- Serve the tacos hot from the oven. Set out the lettuce, chopped tomatoes, chopped onion, sour cream, taco sauce, and any other preferred toppings so everyone can create their own taco masterpiece!
Notes
- Use soft tortillas instead of crispy taco shells and choose lean ground beef for a healthier option with lower fat content.
- Try different cheeses like cheddar, Monterey Jack, or queso fresco to add variety to your tacos.
- Add jalapeños or hot sauce to spice up your tacos for an extra kick of heat. Serve homemade salsa or pico de gallo on the side for fresh and vibrant flavors.
