The Best Bread Pudding

Description

Warm and comforting bread pudding, infused with cinnamon and vanilla, perfect for family gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 1 16 oz loaf French bread
  • 5 eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 cup heavy cream (for sauce)
  • 1 Tbs flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar (for sauce)
  • 4 Tbs butter (for sauce)
  • 1 tsp vanilla (for sauce)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Spray a 9″x13″ baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.
  3. Cut the bread into 1″-2″ squares and add to a large bowl.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the milk, cream, eggs, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg until fully combined.
  5. Pour the custard mixture over the bread and stir gently to coat all pieces. Allow the bread to soak for about 20 minutes.
  6. Spread the soaked bread evenly in the baking dish.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for about 50-60 minutes, until the center is set and firm but still custardy.
  8. In a separate saucepan, whisk together sugar, flour, and heavy cream until thoroughly combined. Add in the butter and heat over medium until the butter melts and the mixture begins to boil.
  9. Continue whisking until it thickens slightly, then remove from heat and stir in the remaining vanilla.
  10. Drizzle this sauce over the warm bread pudding and enjoy!

Notes

Feel free to add chocolate or dried fruits for a twist on the classic recipe.
