  • 2 1/2 pounds of apples (such as Granny Smith and Honeycrisp)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 package of pie crusts (or homemade pie crust)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Peel, core, and slice apples into thin slices. In a large mixing bowl, combine apples, sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and flour. Mix well and let sit for about 15 minutes.
  3. Roll out one pie crust and place it in a 9-inch pie dish.
  4. Fill the crust with the apple mixture and dot with butter.
  5. Roll out the second pie crust and place it over the filling. Crimp the edges to seal and cut slits in the top crust for ventilation.
  6. Brush the top with beaten egg for a golden finish.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and apples are tender.
  8. Let cool before serving.
