- 1/2 cup (120mL) whole milk
- 1/4 cup (60g) unsalted butter, cut into 4 slices
- 1 large egg, at room temperature
- 6 tablespoons (85g) unsalted butter, very soft
- 3/4 cup (150g) packed brown sugar (light or dark)
- 1 1/2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 4 oz (115g) full fat block cream cheese, room temperature
- 5 tablespoons (70g) unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1 1/2 cups (195g) powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Instructions
- Combine 3 cups of flour, sugar, instant yeast, and salt in a large bowl; whisk to combine.
- Heat water, whole milk, and sliced unsalted butter in a medium microwave-safe bowl until the butter melts.
- Whisk the room temperature egg into the warm mixture.
- Pour the combined wet ingredients over the dry flour mixture and mix until you achieve a thick, sticky dough.
- Incorporate an additional cup of flour until it forms a cohesive ball.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface until smooth and slightly tacky.
- Cover the dough and let it rest for about 20 minutes.
- Roll the rested dough into a 14×10 inch rectangle on a floured surface.
- Spread softened butter over the dough and evenly disperse brown sugar and cinnamon mixture.
- Roll up the dough tightly into a log and cut 1/2 inch off each end.
- Cut the log into 12 evenly sized rolls using a serrated knife.
- Place the rolls cut side up in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Cover the rolls and let them rise in a warm spot for about 45 minutes.
- Preheat your oven and bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
- Prepare the icing by creaming together cream cheese, softened butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Spread the icing generously over the warm cinnamon rolls.
Notes
Allow the dough to rise in a draft-free area for best results. Use softened butter liberally to ensure proper adherence of the filling.
