Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups black beans (1 15-oz can, drained and rinsed very well) (250g after draining)
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder (10g)
  • 1/2 cup quick oats (40g)
  • 1/4 tsp (1 ml) salt
  • 1/3 cup pure maple syrup, honey, or agave (75g)
  • pinch uncut stevia OR 2 tbsp (30 ml) sugar (or omit and increase maple syrup to 1/2 cup (120 ml))
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil (40g)
  • 2 tsp (10 ml) pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp (3 ml) baking powder
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) to 2/3 cup (160 ml) chocolate chips (Not optional. Omit at your own risk)
  • optional: more chips, for presentation

Instructions

  1. Begin by setting your oven to 350°F to preheat.
  2. Place all the ingredients, except for the chocolate chips, into a high-quality food processor and blend them until the mixture is completely smooth. Ensure to blend thoroughly. (While a blender is an option if necessary, a food processor yields a better texture and taste.)
  3. Mix in the chocolate chips by hand, then transfer the batter into a greased 8×8 baking dish.
  4. For a nicer presentation, feel free to sprinkle additional chocolate chips on the top.
  5. Bake the brownies for 15 to 18 minutes, then allow them to cool for at least 10 minutes before slicing.
  6. If the brownies seem slightly underdone, refrigerate them overnight, and they will firm up nicely.
  7. This recipe yields 9 to 12 brownies.
  8. Once you make this recipe, please consider leaving feedback!
  9. The fun part: serve the brownies before disclosing the secret ingredient. In my experience, nobody has correctly guessed it when they weren’t informed beforehand!

Notes

  • Ensure black beans are thoroughly rinsed to eliminate any bean flavor in the brownies.
  • Use premium cocoa powder for a luscious chocolate taste.
  • Include baking powder for a light and fluffy texture in the brownies.
