  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup chocolate chips or chunks (optional but recommended)

Instructions

  1. Melt butter and chocolate together in a double boiler or microwave. Stir until smooth and set aside to cool slightly.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together granulated sugar, brown sugar, and eggs for 2–3 minutes until pale and thick. Add vanilla extract.
  3. Stir in the melted chocolate mixture until well blended.
  4. Add cocoa powder, flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix until just combined to form a thick, glossy batter.
  5. Fold in optional chocolate chips or chunks for an extra chocolatey experience.
  6. Let the batter sit for 10 minutes to firm up slightly.
  7. Scoop dough onto a parchment-lined baking sheet, spacing evenly.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 10–12 minutes, until tops are crackly but centers are still soft.
  9. Let cookies rest on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
