Ingredients

  • 8 oz elbow macaroni
  • 2 cups diced ham
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook the macaroni according to package instructions until al dente; drain and set aside.
  3. In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
  4. Stir in flour, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper to form a roux, cooking for 1-2 minutes.
  5. Gradually whisk in milk and cream, stirring until thickened.
  6. Remove from heat and stir in half of the cheddar cheese until melted.
  7. In a large bowl, combine cooked macaroni, ham, and cheese sauce.
  8. Pour the mixture into a greased baking dish and sprinkle with remaining cheddar cheese and breadcrumbs on top.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden and bubbly.
  10. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For added flavor, consider using sharp cheddar or incorporating cayenne pepper into the cheese sauce.
