- 8 oz elbow macaroni
- 2 cups diced ham
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cook the macaroni according to package instructions until al dente; drain and set aside.
- In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
- Stir in flour, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper to form a roux, cooking for 1-2 minutes.
- Gradually whisk in milk and cream, stirring until thickened.
- Remove from heat and stir in half of the cheddar cheese until melted.
- In a large bowl, combine cooked macaroni, ham, and cheese sauce.
- Pour the mixture into a greased baking dish and sprinkle with remaining cheddar cheese and breadcrumbs on top.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden and bubbly.
- Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
For added flavor, consider using sharp cheddar or incorporating cayenne pepper into the cheese sauce.
