Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, pepper, and dried herbs.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together buttermilk, egg, and melted butter.
  3. Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  4. Fold in thinly sliced onions until evenly coated with batter.
  5. Heat 1/2 inch of oil in a heavy skillet to 350°F.
  6. Drop tablespoons of batter into hot oil, flattening slightly with the back of the spoon.
  7. Fry for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
  8. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
