A delightful dish featuring crispy extra-firm tofu coated in a sweet and savory honey garlic sauce.
Ingredients
- Extra-Firm Tofu (1 block, about 14-16 ounces)
- Cornstarch (½ cup)
- Soy Sauce (¼ cup)
- Rice Vinegar (2 tablespoons)
- Honey (¼ cup)
- Garlic (4-5 cloves, minced)
- Fresh Ginger (1 tablespoon, grated)
- Red Pepper Flakes (½ teaspoon, optional)
- Sesame Oil (1 teaspoon)
- Cooking Oil (for frying, about ½ cup)
- Sesame Seeds (for garnish, optional)
- Green Onions (for garnish, optional)
Instructions
- Press the Tofu: Wrap the tofu in paper towels, place a weight on it, and press for at least 30 minutes.
- Prepare the Tofu: Cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes.
- Coat the Tofu in Cornstarch: Coat the cubed tofu with cornstarch, ensuring all sides are covered evenly.
- Prepare the Honey Garlic Sauce: Whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, minced garlic, grated ginger, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes until smooth. Set aside.
- Fry the Tofu Until Crispy: Heat cooking oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the cornstarch-coated tofu, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan.
- Cook Until Golden and Crispy: Fry the tofu for about 5-7 minutes per side until golden brown.
- Add Tofu to the Honey Garlic Sauce: Remove excess oil, add the honey garlic sauce to the skillet, and bring to a simmer.
- Coat the Tofu in the Sauce: Add the crispy tofu, gently tossing to coat for another 1-2 minutes.
- Garnish and Serve: Transfer to a serving dish, garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions if desired.
Notes
For optimal crispiness, ensure tofu is well-pressed and the oil temperature is correct when frying.
