Description

Crispy honey garlic tofu features extra-firm tofu coated in cornstarch and fried to perfection, all drenched in a delicious honey garlic sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 block (14-16 ounces) of extra-firm tofu
  • ½ cup of cornstarch
  • ¼ cup of soy sauce (low-sodium optional)
  • 2 tablespoons of rice vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
  • ¼ cup of honey (maple syrup or agave nectar for a vegan alternative)
  • 45 cloves of fresh garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon of fresh ginger, grated
  • ½ teaspoon of red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon of sesame oil
  • About ½ cup of cooking oil (like canola, vegetable, or avocado oil)
  • Optional garnishes: sesame seeds and sliced green onions

Instructions

  1. Press the tofu to reduce moisture for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Cut the pressed tofu into bite-sized cubes.
  3. Coat the tofu pieces in cornstarch.
  4. Prepare the honey garlic sauce by combining the soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, garlic, ginger, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes in a small bowl.
  5. Heat cooking oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  6. Add the coated tofu in a single layer to the hot oil, avoiding overcrowding.
  7. Fry the tofu for about 5-7 minutes per side until golden brown.
  8. Remove the tofu and drain excess oil on paper towels.
  9. Pour the honey garlic sauce into the skillet and bring it to a simmer.
  10. Toss the crispy tofu in the sauce until evenly coated.
  11. Serve hot, garnished with sesame seeds and green onions if desired.

Notes

For best results, fry tofu in smaller batches to achieve maximum crispiness.
