Ingredients

- 1 tablespoon instant yeast
- 1½ cups warm water
- 1 tablespoon honey (or sugar)
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 4 cups flour
- 1 egg (for wash)
- Salt for sprinkling (kosher or sea salt)
Instructions
- Combine the yeast, warm water, honey, and salt in the bowl of a stand mixer.
- Stir in the flour and mix until the dough cleans the sides of the bowl (about 1-2 minutes).
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Pull off pieces of dough and shape them into pretzels or desired shapes. Place them on lined or greased cookie sheets.
- Mix the egg with a bit of water and brush it over all the dough shapes, then sprinkle with salt.
- Bake for 13-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Cool the pretzels on a wire rack for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
Use warm water to activate the yeast and ensure that the pretzels are golden and crusty by baking in a preheated oven.
