Soft and delicious eggless sugar cookies that are perfect for decorating. These cookies rise beautifully using a combination of baking powder, baking soda, and yogurt.
Ingredients

- 2½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ¼ cup plain yogurt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 2–3 tablespoons milk (as needed)
Instructions
- Cream together softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Mix in yogurt and vanilla extract until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Add milk as needed to achieve proper dough consistency.
- Chill dough for at least 1 hour if making cut-out cookies.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Roll dough and cut shapes or form into balls.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are just beginning to turn golden.
- Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring.
Notes
- Measure flour by spooning into measuring cups to avoid dense cookies.
- For cut-out cookies, roll dough between parchment paper.
- Don’t overbake – centers should look slightly underdone.
- Use gel food coloring if desired for colored dough.
- Can be made vegan using plant-based alternatives.
