Description

A creamy, cheesy potato dish inspired by classic French onion soup, perfect for cozy gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (10 oz) can French onion soup
  • 1 (1 oz) envelope dry onion soup mix
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, melted
  • 2.5 lbs russet potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups shredded Gruyere cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Wash, peel, and thinly slice the russet potatoes.
  3. In a large bowl, mix the French onion soup, dry onion soup mix, and melted butter until well combined.
  4. In a greased baking dish, arrange a layer of potatoes.
  5. Pour a portion of the soup mixture over the potatoes.
  6. Repeat layers until all potatoes and soup mixture are used.
  7. Sprinkle the shredded Gruyere cheese evenly over the top.

Notes

Consider adding caramelized onions for deeper flavor. Let the dish rest after baking before serving.
