- 2 1/2 tsp yeast (8 g)
- 3 cups (360 g) all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup (85 g) cornmeal, plus more for dusting
- 2 tsp (10 ml) salt
- 1 1/3 cups (315 ml) water
- 1/3 cup (80 ml) vegetable oil (You could use a flavored oil, like rosemary, basil, garlic)
Instructions
- Add the ingredients you have to your bread maker and choose the manual setting. Begin the process.
- Check the dough as it kneads during the first few minutes, adding extra water or flour if needed to form a smooth dough ball. Ensure the dough is not sticking to the sides.
- Coat a sturdy baking tray with oil or spray, then dust it with cornmeal.
- After the bread machine’s final cycle is complete, transfer the dough onto the baking tray and shape it into a large circle, about 12 inches in diameter. Use cornmeal on your fingers to prevent sticking.
- Lightly coat the surface of the dough with vegetable oil. This will help hold your decorative elements in place.
- Arrange your decorative elements on top, pressing them gently into the dough. Add more oil if needed, and sprinkle with coarse salt.
- Allow the dough to rise for around 30 minutes until it becomes puffy.
- Place the tray in an oven preheated to 425°F and bake for 10 minutes. Then reduce the temperature to 350°F and continue baking for another 5 minutes until it is lightly browned. Keep an eye on it to prevent over-browning.
- Serve either warm or at room temperature, cutting it into wedges.
