Description

A comforting recipe for fluffy German potato dumplings that evoke memories of family gatherings and home cooking.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs potatoes
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (optional)
  • Butter (for serving)
  • Gravy (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Peel and boil the potatoes until tender. Drain and let cool slightly.
  2. Mash the potatoes until smooth.
  3. In a bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, flour, egg, and salt. Mix until a dough forms.
  4. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour.
  5. Shape the dough into balls, about the size of a golf ball.
  6. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
  7. Drop the dumplings into the boiling water and cook until they float to the surface, about 5-7 minutes.
  8. Remove the dumplings with a slotted spoon.
  9. Serve warm with butter and gravy or alongside your favorite meat dishes.

Notes

For the smoothest consistency, use a potato ricer. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.
