- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 egg (for egg wash, optional)
Instructions
- Combine warm milk and yeast, let stand for 5 minutes until foamy
- Mix flour, sugar, and salt in a large bowl
- Add butter, eggs, and yeast mixture to dry ingredients
- Knead until smooth and elastic (about 8-10 minutes)
- Let rise until doubled (about 1 hour)
- Shape into rolls and place in greased pan
- Let rise again for 30 minutes
- Brush with egg wash if desired
- Bake at 375°F for 15-20 minutes until golden brown
Notes
- If rolls don’t rise properly, check if your yeast is fresh and ensure milk temperature is around 110°F
- Make ahead option: Refrigerate shaped, unbaked rolls overnight
- For fluffier rolls, add 1 tablespoon vital wheat gluten or replace ¼ cup flour with potato flour
- This recipe can be made in a bread machine using the dough cycle
- For yellower rolls like bakeries, use an extra egg yolk in dough or brush with egg wash
