Homemade pita bread features a soft, pillowy texture and is perfect for wrapping around delicious fillings or enjoying with dips.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (about 2 ¼ teaspoons)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions

  1. Combine warm water and yeast. Let it sit until foamy.
  2. Mix flour and salt in another bowl.
  3. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil to the flour mixture.
  4. Knead the dough until smooth.
  5. Let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size.
  6. Divide the dough and roll into balls.
  7. Roll each ball into a flat disc.
  8. Bake in a preheated oven at 475°F (245°C) for about 5-7 minutes until puffy.
  9. Remove from the oven and let cool before serving.

Notes

For best results, preheat the oven thoroughly and use a baking stone or baking sheet for even cooking.
