Description

Soft, fluffy homemade dinner rolls that are perfect for any meal. These golden-brown rolls are tender on the inside with a slightly crispy top.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 cup warm milk (110-115°F)
  • ¼ cup butter, softened
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Additional butter for brushing

Instructions

  1. Combine warm milk, yeast, and 1 teaspoon sugar. Let stand until foamy, about 5-10 minutes.
  2. Mix flour, remaining sugar, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Add softened butter, egg, and yeast mixture to flour mixture.
  4. Knead until smooth and elastic, about 8-10 minutes.
  5. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled (about 1 hour).
  6. Shape into 12 rolls and place in greased baking pan.
  7. Let rise again until doubled (about 30 minutes).
  8. Bake at 375°F for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Brush with melted butter while warm.

Notes

  • You can use a bread machine or stand mixer with dough hook for mixing and kneading (5-7 minutes).
  • For proper rising, ensure your yeast is fresh and environment is warm (75-85°F).
  • Make ahead: Shape rolls and refrigerate overnight, letting them come to room temperature 45 minutes before baking.
  • Rolls are done when golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped (internal temperature 190°F).
  • For fluffy rolls, keep dough slightly tacky and avoid using too much flour.
