Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cup (960 ml) s all-purpose flour
- 5 cup (120 ml) margarine, softened
- 4 tablespoon (60 ml) s white sugar
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) baking soda
- 1 tablespoon (15 ml) baking powder
- 5 teaspoon (3 ml) salt

- 1 egg
- 25 cup (60 ml) vegetable oil
- 25 cup (60 ml) buttermilk
Instructions
- Warm up your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly coat a large baking tray with grease.
- In a big bowl, blend together the flour, softened margarine, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Add 1 cup of buttermilk and the egg, mixing well.
- Place the dough onto a floured surface and knead it gently. Shape it into a round loaf and set it on the greased baking tray. Be aware that the dough might feel a bit sticky.
- In a small bowl, mix the vegetable oil with 1/4 cup of buttermilk and brush this mixture over the loaf. Use a sharp knife to score an ‘X’ on top of the bread.
- Cook in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, roughly 45 to 50 minutes. Check after 30 minutes to see if it’s done. While baking, you can continue to coat the loaf with the oil mixture.
- Cut into slices and enjoy!
