Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups (960 ml) old-fashioned oats
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) chopped pecans
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) chopped walnuts
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) ground flax seed
  • 2 teaspoons (10 ml) ground cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup (80 ml) vegetable oil
  • 2/3 cup (160 ml) fruit syrup
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) maple flavoring
  • 1/4 teaspoon (1 ml) salt

Instructions

  1. Heat your oven to 300°F (150°C).
  2. Cover a baking tray with parchment paper.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the oats, pecans, walnuts, flax seed, and cinnamon.
  4. In a smaller bowl, mix together the vegetable oil, fruit syrup, maple flavoring, and salt; then, pour this over the oat blend and stir until everything is coated evenly.
  5. Evenly distribute the mixture onto the lined baking tray.
  6. Place in the preheated oven and bake until it achieves a light golden color, approximately 40 minutes.
  7. Allow the granola to cool fully before breaking into pieces. Store in a container that seals tightly.

Notes

  • For added crunch, consider mixing in chopped almonds or sunflower seeds with the oats.
  • Try using different fruit syrups like honey or agave to create a unique flavor profile.
  • Ensure even baking by stirring the granola mixture halfway through and add dried fruits after cooling for extra sweetness and texture.
