  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups applesauce
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan or bundt pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugars until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in applesauce and vanilla.
  4. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. Fold in walnuts if using.
  5. Pour batter into prepared pan, spreading evenly.
  6. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean and the cake springs back when touched.
