  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) vegetable oil (120 milliliters)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) vanilla extract (5 milliliters)
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) buttermilk (120 milliliters)
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) hot water (120 milliliters)
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) dark chocolate chips (90 grams)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour a 9-inch round baking pan.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Add vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients.
  5. Mix until just combined.
  6. Stir in the buttermilk until the batter is smooth.
  7. Slowly add the hot water to the batter, mixing continuously.
  8. Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips.
  9. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan.
  10. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
