Description

A classic dish featuring tender flank steak stir-fried with vibrant vegetables in a savory-sweet sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb flank steak (thinly sliced against the grain)
  • 1 carrot (peeled and julienned)
  • 1 red bell pepper (sliced into strips)
  • 1/4 cup corn starch
  • 1 Tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 Tbsp neutral oil (divided)
  • 1/3 cup green onions (thickly sliced from 4 stems)
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds (optional garnish)
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger (peeled and grated)
  • 4 garlic cloves (peeled and grated)
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1/3 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tsp Sriracha (or to taste)

Instructions

  1. Place beef slices in a bowl, add cornstarch, and stir to completely coat.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine brown sugar, soy sauce, water, ginger, garlic, and Sriracha, stirring until well combined. Set aside.
  3. In a large skillet or wok, heat 1 Tbsp oil and 1 Tbsp butter over medium-high heat. Once hot, add in the carrot and red bell pepper, stir-frying until crisp-tender. Remove the vegetables and set aside.
  4. Increase the heat to high and add the remaining tablespoon of oil. Once hot, add the beef in a single layer, searing for about 2 minutes per side. Don’t overcrowd the pan; cook in batches if necessary.
  5. Return the vegetables to the skillet with the green onion, then pour the sauce over everything. Stir to combine and reduce the heat to medium-low. Let simmer for about 3 minutes or until the sauce thickens.
  6. Garnish with sesame seeds if desired and serve hot.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider marinating the flank steak in soy sauce and cornstarch for about 30 minutes before cooking. Use fresh ingredients for the best results.
