Instructions
- Remove the New York strip steak from the refrigerator and let it come to room temperature for about 30 minutes.
- Preheat a skillet or grill over high heat.
- Season both sides of the steak generously with salt and black pepper.
- Add olive oil or butter to the skillet once hot.
- Place the steak in the skillet or on the grill and cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side without moving it.
- Flip the steak and cook for another 4-5 minutes for medium-rare or longer for desired doneness.
- If using, add garlic and fresh herbs during the last few minutes of cooking for added flavor.
- Remove the steak from the heat and let it rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing and serving.
