Ingredients
Scale
- 3 cup (720 ml) s all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoon (10 ml) s coarse sea salt
- 1/2 teaspoon (3 ml) active dry yeast (or instant yeast)
- 1 1/2 cup (360 ml) s warm water (about 110 degrees F)
Instructions
- In a spacious bowl, mix together the flour, sea salt, and yeast. Add the warm water and use a wooden spoon to blend until everything is fully integrated. The mixture will be sticky. Cover the bowl and let it sit to rise at room temperature for 3-4 hours or in the fridge for up to 15 hours.
- Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and form it into a ball. Lightly dust a little flour on top of the ball and set it on a sheet of parchment paper. Gently cover the dough with plastic wrap and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
- In the meantime, put an empty Dutch oven or cast iron pot with its lid into the oven and heat it to 450 degrees F.
- Take off the plastic wrap from the dough. Using the parchment paper, lift the dough ball and place it inside the preheated cast iron pot. Cover it with the lid and return it to the oven to bake for 30 minutes.
- After the initial 30 minutes, take off the lid and continue baking uncovered for an additional 12-15 minutes, until the top turns golden. Remove from the oven and let the bread cool on a wire rack.
- Keep the bread in an open paper bag on the counter for up to one week.
