Description
A cheesy, beefy twist on a comfort food classic that combines rich flavors for a satisfying meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 pounds ground beef
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- ½ cup milk
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 8 slices provolone cheese (4 for filling, 4 for topping)
- Fresh parsley, chopped
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Sauté the diced green bell pepper and onion for 5 minutes until softened, then set aside.
- In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until well combined.
- Press half of the meat mixture firmly into the bottom of a loaf pan.
- Layer 4 slices of provolone cheese over the meat, then add the sautéed peppers and onions on top.
- Top with the remaining meat mixture, pressing it down to seal the edges well.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes. During the last 5 minutes, lay the remaining 4 slices of provolone on top and bake until melted.
- Allow the meatloaf to rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley, if desired.
Notes
For a different flavor, feel free to switch up the type of cheese used. Adding a sprinkle of brown sugar on top during the last few minutes of baking enhances sweetness.
