Discover how to make delicious potato rolls with this easy recipe. Perfect for any meal, these fluffy rolls will be a hit with your family and friends.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 tsp (7 g) active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) warm water
  • 1 cup (240 ml) scalded milk, cooled
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) prepared mashed potatoes
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup (50 g) white sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp (9 g) salt
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 4 1/2 cups (540 g) all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the yeast with the warm water and let it sit until it becomes foamy, which should take around 5 minutes.
  2. In another bowl, mix together the milk, mashed potatoes, vegetable oil, sugar, and salt.
  3. Incorporate the yeast mixture and the beaten egg into this.
  4. Gradually add 2 cups of flour, mixing until it is well blended. Then, gradually mix in the remaining 2 ½ cups of flour until a pliable dough forms.
  5. Move the dough to a surface dusted with flour and knead it for about 7 minutes until it becomes smooth and stretchy.
  6. Place the kneaded dough into a bowl with a light coating of oil, turning it to ensure all sides are covered.
  7. Cover the bowl and leave it in a warm spot until the dough grows to twice its size, approximately 1 hour.
  8. Gently deflate the dough and form it into a ball. Cover it and let it sit for 10 minutes.
  9. Set the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) and prepare two baking sheets with grease.
  10. Divide the dough into 24 pieces and shape them into rolls. Arrange these on the baking sheets and let them rise until lightly pressed, they spring back, for 25 to 40 minutes.
  11. Place the rolls in the preheated oven and bake them until they turn golden brown, which should take 10 to 12 minutes.

Notes

  • Ensure the mashed potatoes are thoroughly mixed into the dough for enhanced moisture and flavor.
  • Scald the milk before adding it to the mixture to improve the bread’s texture and taste.
  • Shape the rolls uniformly to promote even baking, and brush them with a beaten egg wash for a golden-brown finish.
