- 1/2 cup (120 ml) sugar
- 2 teaspoon (10 ml) s baking powder
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) milk (evaporated or fresh)
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) water
- 1 tablespoon (15 ml) butter – melted
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) grated cheese
- Strips cheese – for topping
- Butter or oil for brushing the molds
Instructions
- In a bowl, blend together the flour, sugar, and baking powder.
- Pour in the milk and crack in the egg, then use a whisk or an electric mixer on medium to stir until the mixture is smooth.
- Integrate the water, melted butter, and vanilla extract, stirring thoroughly for a minute or two. Gently fold in the grated cheese using a spatula or spoon.
- Brush the molds with butter or oil, then pour the batter into them until they’re about three-quarters full.
- Pour water into the base of a steamer and allow it to simmer gently over low heat. Position the molds in the steamer basket and steam for 10 to 12 minutes, checking with a toothpick for doneness.
- Lift the lid, place a cheese strip on each piece, and steam for an additional minute or two until the cheese melts. Turn off the heat and let them cool slightly.
- Carefully lift the Puto Cheese out of the molds and arrange them on a serving dish.

- Ensure baking powder is fresh for proper rise; expired powder may cause dense Puto Cheese
