Description
Classic homemade donuts that can be either fried traditionally or baked for a lighter version. Perfect for breakfast or as a sweet treat any time of day.
Ingredients

- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm milk
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon salt
- Oil for frying
- Optional: powdered sugar or glaze for topping
Instructions
- Mix warm milk with yeast and let stand until foamy
- Combine flour, sugar, and salt in a large bowl
- Add eggs and melted butter to the milk mixture
- Mix wet and dry ingredients until a soft dough forms
- Knead dough until smooth
- Let rise until doubled in size
- Roll out and cut into donut shapes
- Heat oil to 350°F
- Fry donuts until golden brown
- Cool and add desired toppings
Notes
- Can be baked at 350°F for 12-15 minutes instead of frying
- Air fryer option: 350°F for about 5 minutes
- To test oil temperature without a thermometer: a bread cube should brown in 60 seconds
- Dough can be made up to 24 hours ahead and refrigerated
- Maintain 350°F oil temperature to prevent excess oil absorption
- For chocolate variation: add 1/4 cup cocoa powder and increase sugar by 2 tablespoons
