Deliciously tender and smoky BBQ ribs with a flavorful chipotle sauce that can be made in the oven or slow cooker.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 racks baby back ribs
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 2 chipotle peppers in adobo sauce
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce

Instructions

  1. Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs and pat dry.
  2. Mix together brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper to create a dry rub.
  3. Apply the dry rub generously to both sides of the ribs, ensuring complete coverage.
  4. For oven method: Preheat oven to 275°F. Wrap ribs in foil and place on a baking sheet. Bake for 2-2.5 hours until tender.
  5. While ribs are cooking, blend chipotle peppers with barbecue sauce until smooth.
  6. When ribs are tender, remove from foil, brush with sauce, and broil for 3-5 minutes until caramelized.
  7. Let rest for 5-10 minutes before cutting and serving with additional sauce.

Notes

  • For slow cooker method: Cook on low for 6-8 hours until tender.
  • You can remove the membrane by sliding a knife under it and pulling it off with a paper towel for better grip.
