Description

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp toasted sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp white rice vinegar
  • 3 cloves minced garlic
  • 1 tbsp minced ginger
  • 1 tsp sambal oelek
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 6 tbsp veggie broth
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 16 oz super firm or extra-firm tofu (drained and lightly pressed)
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • Vegetable oil or cooking spray
  • Chopped green onions (for garnish)
  • Fresh cilantro (for garnish)
  • Toasted white or black sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Make the sauce: In a bowl, whisk together the toasted sesame oil, white rice vinegar, minced garlic, minced ginger, sambal oelek, soy sauce, brown sugar, veggie broth, and cornstarch until smooth. Set aside.
  2. Prepare the tofu: Cut the pressed tofu into bite-sized cubes. Toss cubes with cornstarch, salt, and black pepper until evenly coated.
  3. Pan-fry the tofu: Heat vegetable oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Place tofu cubes in the pan, frying until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  4. Combine with sauce: Pour the sticky sauce over the cooked tofu and gently stir. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the tofu.
  5. Serve and garnish: Transfer tofu to a serving plate and garnish with green onions, cilantro, and sesame seeds.
