Ingredients
Scale
- 2 tbsp toasted sesame oil
- 1 tbsp white rice vinegar
- 3 cloves minced garlic
- 1 tbsp minced ginger
- 1 tsp sambal oelek
- ¼ cup soy sauce
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 6 tbsp veggie broth
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 16 oz super firm or extra-firm tofu (drained and lightly pressed)
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- Vegetable oil or cooking spray
- Chopped green onions (for garnish)
- Fresh cilantro (for garnish)
- Toasted white or black sesame seeds (for garnish)
Instructions
- Make the sauce: In a bowl, whisk together the toasted sesame oil, white rice vinegar, minced garlic, minced ginger, sambal oelek, soy sauce, brown sugar, veggie broth, and cornstarch until smooth. Set aside.
- Prepare the tofu: Cut the pressed tofu into bite-sized cubes. Toss cubes with cornstarch, salt, and black pepper until evenly coated.
- Pan-fry the tofu: Heat vegetable oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Place tofu cubes in the pan, frying until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Combine with sauce: Pour the sticky sauce over the cooked tofu and gently stir. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the tofu.
- Serve and garnish: Transfer tofu to a serving plate and garnish with green onions, cilantro, and sesame seeds.
Notes
Ensure tofu is well-pressed to achieve maximum crispiness. Feel free to customize the sauce to your taste!
