Description
Delicious crispy tofu coated in a sweet and tangy orange sauce. This vegetarian dish is perfect for a quick weeknight dinner.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 block (14 oz) extra-firm tofu
- 3 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon orange zest
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
- 1–2 teaspoons sriracha (optional)
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (for slurry)
- Green onions for garnish
- Sesame seeds for garnish
Instructions
- Press the tofu for at least 30 minutes to remove excess moisture. Cut into 1-inch cubes.
- In a large bowl, toss the tofu cubes with cornstarch until evenly coated.
- Heat oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Add the tofu and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden and crispy.
- While the tofu cooks, prepare the sauce by combining orange juice, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, orange zest, garlic, ginger, and sriracha in a bowl.
- Once the tofu is crispy, reduce heat to medium-low and pour the sauce into the pan.
- Allow the sauce to simmer for 2-3 minutes, then add the cornstarch slurry. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens.
- Toss the tofu in the sauce until well coated. Serve hot, garnished with green onions and sesame seeds.
Notes
- For extra crispy tofu, freeze it first, then thaw before pressing.
- Use firm or extra-firm tofu for best results.
- The dish pairs well with steamed rice or vegetables.
- Adjust the sriracha amount based on your spice preference.
