  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

Delicious crispy tofu coated in a sweet and tangy orange sauce. This vegetarian dish is perfect for a quick weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 block (14 oz) extra-firm tofu
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
  • 12 teaspoons sriracha (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (for slurry)
  • Green onions for garnish
  • Sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  1. Press the tofu for at least 30 minutes to remove excess moisture. Cut into 1-inch cubes.
  2. In a large bowl, toss the tofu cubes with cornstarch until evenly coated.
  3. Heat oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Add the tofu and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden and crispy.
  4. While the tofu cooks, prepare the sauce by combining orange juice, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, orange zest, garlic, ginger, and sriracha in a bowl.
  5. Once the tofu is crispy, reduce heat to medium-low and pour the sauce into the pan.
  6. Allow the sauce to simmer for 2-3 minutes, then add the cornstarch slurry. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  7. Toss the tofu in the sauce until well coated. Serve hot, garnished with green onions and sesame seeds.

Notes

  • For extra crispy tofu, freeze it first, then thaw before pressing.
  • Use firm or extra-firm tofu for best results.
  • The dish pairs well with steamed rice or vegetables.
  • Adjust the sriracha amount based on your spice preference.
