Description
Delicious sticky tofu bowls featuring crispy tofu coated with a savory-sweet sauce, served over rice and topped with fresh ingredients.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 14-oz package extra firm tofu
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- ½ cup soy sauce (or coconut aminos)
- 3 tbsp maple syrup
- 2 tbsp sesame oil
- 2 tbsp rice vinegar
- 3 cloves minced garlic
- 1 tbsp grated ginger
- 3 cups cooked rice
- 2 cups steamed edamame
- 1 avocado
- Optional: sesame seeds and spring onions to garnish
Instructions
- Press the tofu between paper towels to remove excess moisture, then cut into small to medium cubes.
- Coat the tofu with cornstarch in a sealed container and shake gently.
- Preheat a frying pan over medium heat with olive oil.
- Add the tofu cubes to the pan and stir constantly to prevent sticking.
- Cook until the tofu is golden brown and crispy, about 10 minutes, flipping occasionally.
- In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, maple syrup, sesame oil, rice vinegar, garlic, and ginger.
- Once the tofu is crispy, pour the sauce over it and let it thicken for a few minutes.
- Assemble the bowls with a base of cooked rice, top with crispy tofu, steamed edamame, and sliced avocado.
- Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped spring onions if desired.
Notes
For a lighter option, consider baking the tofu instead of frying. Store components separately to maintain texture when reheating.
