Description
A delightful teriyaki ginger tofu dish that showcases the harmony of sweet and umami flavors, perfect for introducing tofu to skeptics.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 block (14–16 oz) firm or extra-firm tofu
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup water
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch dissolved in 2 tablespoons water
Instructions
- Press the tofu to remove excess moisture for 15-20 minutes.
- Prepare the sauce by combining soy sauce, water, rice vinegar, honey, grated ginger, minced garlic, and sesame oil in a bowl, whisking until well combined.
- Cut the pressed tofu into your desired shape and marinate in half of the sauce for at least 30 minutes, turning occasionally.
- Remove tofu from marinade, coat with cornstarch, and heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
- Cook the tofu for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden and crispy.
- Bring the remaining marinade to a gentle boil, add the cornstarch slurry, and thicken the sauce.
- Add cooked tofu to the thickened sauce and toss to coat. Serve hot, garnished with green onions or sesame seeds if desired.
Notes
For extra flavor, allow tofu to marinate longer. Serve over rice or steamed vegetables.
