Ingredients
- – 1 pound (454 g) ground beef
- – 1/2 cup (120 ml) bread crumbs
- – 1 teaspoon (5 ml) dried basil
- – 1 teaspoon (5 ml) dried oregano
- – 1 teaspoon (5 ml) dried parsley
- – 1/2 teaspoon (3 ml) garlic powder
- – 1/2 cup (50 g) grated cheddar cheese
- – 1 large egg
- – 2 Tablespoons (30 ml) vegetable oil
- – 1 Tablespoon (15 ml) steak seasoning
- – 1 jar marinara sauce
- – 16 slices cheddar cheese
- – 8 buns or sandwich rolls
Instructions
- Set your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. In a spacious bowl, combine the ground beef, bread crumbs, dried basil, dried oregano, dried parsley, garlic powder, grated cheddar cheese, egg, vegetable oil, and steak seasoning. Shape the mixture into meatballs about 1-1/2 inches in diameter and arrange them on a greased baking sheet. Cook in the oven for 15 minutes, or until fully done.
- Cut the buns in half and arrange them on a baking tray. Lay two slices of cheddar cheese on the top half of each bun. Switch the oven setting to broil and toast the buns until they are golden and the cheese is melted.
- Heat the marinara sauce in a large saucepan over low to medium heat or use the microwave until it’s thoroughly warmed.
- Place 3-4 meatballs on the bottom half of each toasted bun, pour marinara sauce over them, and then cover them with the top half of each bun.
Notes
- Opt for lean ground beef or ground turkey for a healthier alternative.
- Try different cheese varieties like mozzarella or provolone for a unique flavor.
- Sprinkle chopped fresh basil or parsley on top for a burst of freshness and color.
