- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 carrots, finely chopped
- 2 celery stalks, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 500g ground beef
- 250g ground pork
- 2 cans (400g each) crushed tomatoes
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 cup red wine (optional)
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 bay leaf
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh basil for garnish
- Pasta of choice
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the onion, carrots, and celery, and sauté until softened.
- Stir in the garlic and cook for another minute.
- Add the ground beef and pork, cooking until browned.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, red wine, oregano, bay leaf, salt, and pepper.
- Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low and let cook for at least 60 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Remove the bay leaf, adjust seasoning, and serve over cooked pasta.
- Garnish with fresh basil.
