Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 carrots, finely chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 500g ground beef
  • 250g ground pork
  • 2 cans (400g each) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 cup red wine (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil for garnish
  • Pasta of choice

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the onion, carrots, and celery, and sauté until softened.
  2. Stir in the garlic and cook for another minute.
  3. Add the ground beef and pork, cooking until browned.
  4. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, red wine, oregano, bay leaf, salt, and pepper.
  5. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low and let cook for at least 60 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Remove the bay leaf, adjust seasoning, and serve over cooked pasta.
  7. Garnish with fresh basil.

Notes

Simmering the sauce longer enhances flavor. Use quality ingredients for best results. Adjust seasonings to taste and consider adding fresh herbs.
