Description

A comforting casserole that combines ground beef, rice, and a melty blend of cheeses, infused with the rich flavors of French onion soup.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef (or turkey)
  • 1 cup long-grain white rice
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cups beef broth (or vegetable broth)
  • 1 can French onion soup
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (or olive oil)
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • Salt, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the diced onion and sauté until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the ground beef (or turkey) to the skillet, breaking it into small pieces as it cooks. Cook until browned, about 7-10 minutes. Drain excess fat if needed.
  4. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Combine well.
  5. Add the rice to the mixture, followed by the beef broth and French onion soup. Stir thoroughly to combine all ingredients.
  6. Spread the mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  7. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  8. Remove the foil and sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese over the top.
  9. Return the dish to the oven and bake uncovered for an additional 15 minutes or until the cheese is golden and bubbly.
  10. Remove from the oven and garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

For extra creaminess, consider adding sour cream or cream cheese. Experiment with different cheese varieties for unique flavors.
