- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder

- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 5 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (plus more for greasing the pan)
- 1 large egg, room temperature, lightly beaten
- ½ cup warm milk (low-fat or whole)
- ⅓ cup granulated sugar (for cinnamon sugar coating)
- ¾ teaspoon ground cinnamon (for cinnamon sugar coating)
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (for cinnamon sugar coating)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease your muffin tin.
- Whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg in a large bowl.
- Combine wet ingredients: warm milk, beaten egg, and melted butter until just combined.
- Fill each muffin cup one-third full with batter.
- Bake for 20 to 22 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
- Mix sugar and cinnamon together, and brush tops of muffins with melted butter, then dip into cinnamon sugar.
Notes
For mini muffins, reduce baking time to 15–18 minutes. Experiment with add-ins like chocolate chips or nuts.
