Description
Delightful homemade pop tarts with a flaky pie crust filled with your favorite jam, perfect for nostalgia and sharing.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 package rolled pie crust (2-count, 7.5 oz)
- 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons jam or preserves
- 1 large egg (for the egg wash)
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2–3 tablespoons milk or cream
- 2 tablespoons jam (for icing)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Lay a sheet of parchment on a baking sheet and unroll the crust onto another sheet of parchment.
- Cut the crust into approximately 3-inch by 5-inch rectangles.
- Knead the remaining crust together, roll it out thin again, and cut additional rectangles as needed.
- Beat the egg for an egg wash in a small bowl.
- Lay out eight rectangles on the parchment-lined baking sheet and add 1.5 tablespoons of jam to the center of each.
- Brush the edges of the rectangle with the egg wash.
- Place another rectangle on top and gently pinch the edges to seal.
- Crimp the edges with a fork and poke holes in the top for ventilation.
- Apply the egg wash over the entire top.
- Bake for about 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
- Whisk together powdered sugar, milk or cream, jam, and vanilla extract to prepare icing after cooling.
- Spread the frosting over each tart and enjoy!
Notes
Chilling the pie crust before rolling helps maintain flakiness. For extra crunch, sprinkle a little sugar on top before baking.
