Description
Learn how to make adorable Frankenstein marshmallow pops that are perfect for Halloween parties. Follow our easy recipe for a spooky sweet treat!
Ingredients
- – Green candy melts (6 oz / 170g)
- – Marshmallows (7 oz / 200g)
- – Small pretzel rods (3.5 oz / 100g)
- – Semisweet chocolate chips (4.2 oz / 120g)
- – Candy eyeballs (1.8 oz / 50g)
- – Edible red and black markers
- – Toothpicks; lollipop sticks or colorful straws
Instructions
- Warm the green candy melts in either a microwave or a double boiler, following the instructions on the package, until they are fully liquefied.
- Insert lollipop sticks into the marshmallows, then immerse the marshmallows into the melted candy, turning them to ensure complete coverage. Stand the marshmallows upright in a glass filled with uncooked rice or oatmeal, and place the glass in the refrigerator to allow the coating to cool and firm up slightly, about 5 minutes.
- Heat the chocolate chips in a microwave or double boiler until they are smooth and melted. Dip the tops of the coated marshmallows into the chocolate to create the hair and use a toothpick to drag the chocolate downward to make jagged spikes. Put the marshmallows back in the refrigerator until the chocolate sets, approximately 5 minutes.
- Snap off the ends of the pretzel rods to make small “bolts” for Frankenstein’s neck. Gently insert a piece of pretzel into each side of the marshmallow, roughly one-third of the way up from the bottom.
- With a toothpick and the remaining melted chocolate, place two small chocolate dots on each marshmallow and attach the candy eyeballs.
- Using the black edible marker, sketch a mouth, and with the red edible marker, draw a scar on Frankenstein’s forehead. Relish the marshmallow pops immediately or store them in an airtight container in the fridge until ready to enjoy.
- Candy melts are available at most bakeware stores. Avoid replacing them with white chocolate and green food coloring, as most food colorings are water-based and will cause the chocolate to seize.
Notes
- Use semisweet chocolate chips to enhance the flavor of the hair on the Frankenstein marshmallow pops.
- Make sure to fully coat the marshmallows with green candy melts for a vibrant and uniform appearance.
- Handle the pretzel rods delicately when inserting them for Frankenstein’s neck to avoid breaking the marshmallows.
