Description
French toast cups provide a creative twist on the classic breakfast, made with rich brioche or challah bread, and customizable with various toppings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 loaf Brioche or Challah Bread (substitutes: thick-cut white or cinnamon raisin)
- 4 large Eggs (substitutes: flax or chia seeds for a vegan option)
- 1 cup Whole Milk (substitutes: almond, oat, or soy milk for dairy-free)
- 1/2 cup Sugar (adjust to taste or use a sugar substitute)
- 1 tablespoon Vanilla Extract (homemade for extra flavor)
- 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon Nutmeg (freshly grated)
- 1/4 teaspoon Salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a muffin tin by greasing it lightly.
- Cut the loaf of brioche or challah into one-inch cubes and place them in a large mixing bowl.
- Whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined in a separate bowl.
- Pour the custard mixture over the bread cubes, gently folding to ensure all pieces are soaked.
- Allow the mixture to rest for 10-15 minutes, giving the bread time to absorb the custard.
- Evenly distribute the soaked bread mixture into the prepared muffin cups, pressing them down gently.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and puffed up.
- Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before gently popping them out of the muffin tin.
Notes
Consider preparing the custard mixture the night before for deeper flavors. Experiment with spices and toppings like fresh fruit or chocolate chips.
