Description
A delightful and simple dish that captures the essence of fresh cod cooked in a rich lemon butter sauce.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 fillets cod (about 6 ounces each, fresh or thawed)
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 large lemon (for juice)
- 1 lemon (zest)
- 3 cloves garlic (minced)
- Salt (to taste)
- Black pepper (to taste)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Fresh parsley (chopped, for garnish)
- Optional lemon slices (for garnish)
Instructions
- Prep the cod: Pat the cod fillets dry with paper towels and season both sides with salt and black pepper.
- Heat the pan: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat until shimmering.
- Sear the cod: Place the seasoned cod fillets in the skillet and sear for about 4-5 minutes without moving them.
- Flip the fillets: Gently flip the cod fillets, then add the minced garlic to the pan, sautéing for about 30 seconds.
- Add lemon and butter: Pour in the unsalted butter, lemon juice, and lemon zest, spooning the melted butter over the cod.
- Check for doneness: Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes until the cod is opaque and flakes easily.
- Garnish and serve: Transfer the cod to a serving platter, drizzle with lemon butter sauce, and garnish with parsley and lemon slices if desired.
Notes
Rest the fish for a minute after removing it from the skillet to allow juices to redistribute.
