Description

Discover a delicious twist on Brussels sprouts with our Maple Bacon Brussels Sprouts recipe. Learn how to create a savory side dish perfect for any meal!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 slices beef bacon (180 g), chopped
  • 2 lb. Brussels sprouts (900 g)
  • 1 tsp. kosher salt (5 g)
  • 1/8 tsp. ground cayenne pepper (0.5 g), plus more to taste
  • 1/2 c. dried, unsweetened cranberries (60 g)
  • 1/4 c. apple juice (60 ml)
  • 1/4 c. maple syrup (60 ml)

Instructions

  1. In a spacious cast-iron pan, fry the chopped beef bacon over medium-high heat until it becomes crispy, approximately 6 to 8 minutes. With a slotted spoon, transfer the bacon to a plate lined with paper towels to soak up excess grease.
  2. Place the Brussels sprouts into the pan, ensuring they are well-coated with the bacon drippings. Lower the heat to medium and allow them to cook undisturbed until they begin to brown and caramelize, roughly 6 minutes. Mix in the salt and cayenne pepper, then continue cooking until the Brussels sprouts are just tender, about another 6 to 8 minutes.
  3. Incorporate the cranberries, apple juice, and maple syrup, stirring to evenly coat the Brussels sprouts. Let it all cook for an additional 3 minutes. Finally, return the cooked bacon to the pan and mix everything together. Serve right away.

Notes

  • For added flavor, consider sprinkling extra ground cayenne pepper to add a hint of spice.
  • Ensure the Brussels sprouts are fully coated in the bacon drippings for a more flavorful dish.
  • Adjust the level of sweetness by adding more or less maple syrup based on your preference.
